A Peek at the Sky....
Ladies and Gents,

I did it. Yup, I surely did.

I turned in my notice last Monday and my boss said she didn't blame me. In fact, while we didn't have time to really talk that day (I was up to my eyebrows again), we did carve out about 45 minutes on Tuesday to have a good conversation. She also gave me some ideas about what opportunities she thought I should pursue. Have I mentioned I really like my boss?

I made certain to reassure her that I have nothing against her or our department (truth), but that I did not like what I was seeing as a trend in the upper echelon: not seeming to care about their employees or the quality of the clientele they want to attract (big truth).

I can't begin to tell you how many truly wonderful employees have left in the past 2-3 years or begin to describe some of the people who have been hired to replace them. Please don't misunderstand; there are a great many lovely workers still... but they're getting burnt out, and there are a lot of new and inexperienced workers joining the agency.

In any case, my boss has been well aware of my views on these goings-on. We've always been very direct in our dealings with each other. I appreciate that she's always been a no-more-hands-on-than-necessary boss, who's always ready to give praise where it's due and to give constructive criticism as well, and so I told her. There have never been mind games or politics to deal with, just straightshooting... and that is uncommonly rare in the real world, whether one is talking about corporate or personal relationships.

About my interviews, I think I have a good chance of receiving an offer for one that I'd really like. I won't mention the company but they're essentially a very well-known and credible online healthcare information site, primarily directed toward healthcare professionals but there is also consumer (lay people) information.

I had a phone interview and 2 in-person meets, plus 2 exams (short tests). I really liked the 2 people I'd be working with if hired and the work I'd be doing, too. The professional growth opportunities and challenge are there as well, and none of the job would entail any type of marketing, advertising, or promotional input/content. It would all strictly be medicine and health information.

The indications are favorable that they'd like me to join them. We're ironing out some of the details but no formal offer has been made... I will hear this upcoming week about what the decision will be. In the meantime, I have some paperwork to complete.

The other interview I had didn't pan out, but I met a lovely English physician and we had a nice conversation. I was overqualified for her staffing needs, but it was a great opportunity to meet with her and learn more about her organization nonetheless. She said she'd keep my resume on file... and assured me she meant it. :-)

There are some other potential employers and recruiters I need to call back, and I'm also slowly catching up with my freelance lurid e-book editing. :-)

So, bottom line, my last day of work at my present job will be Thursday, 31 August... 25 days and counting. I can hardly wait!

I don't know about having talent but I definitely do have the determination to get away from the old place. :0)

Your words, above, describe my place exactly. I do not blame you at all for leaving. Truth is, I'm relieved. I'm certain I'm not the only one that was more than a bit worried about you Tea! You have great talent...and you'll be using those talents for folks who truly appreciate them very soon. In the meantime...it's just awfully good to know that you're OK!

Hi, EC! Tried to post at your site yesterday but couldn't get it to load all the way (stupid dialup!).

Thanks very much for your concern and well wishes. I'm sending lots of encouragement and heap-big positive waves in your direction as well!
