Surfacing Somewhat Briefly...
My 2 fortune cookie tags from dinner read:

"New and rewarding opportunities will soon develop for you.."

"Obstacles are those things you see when you take your eyes off the goal."

I can't decide whether these are mixed blessings, a great prediction followed by a dire warning or good things.

========

You might be wondering at the sudden post. Well, sit back for a spell, please, as I'm about to go on a rant. And the reason I have time to post this is because I'm still at the office and there's no point in me going home since by the time I get there, add another hour or so to wind down, it'll be time for me to get back up again and return.

The gist is this: 2 of my accounts are in a bit of a mess. I'm up to my eyes on one and don't have time for the other, which I've been sprinkling among my day staff, who are already swamped with their own work.

Both accounts are a mess because the clients are demanding, the difference between the two, however, is that while one is demanding, there is at least some sense of organization on the client's side. The other is not only demanding, but doesn't seem to have a sense of ownership about their own work product. I can't begin to tell you how much wasted time, effort and energy has been generated, and the morale is in the depths of the netherworld.

I myself was ready to call it quits this weekend. No resignation letter, no notice, nothing. The only things holding me back are that I like my boss, I don't have a new job yet, and I'd be leaving a lot of people in the lurch. Today/last night was another quit-now moment.

Okay, rant over.

=========

Let's talk about the past month of my life...

The Gains
  1. For the month of May, all the clicking at The Breast Cancer Site raised 321.9 free mammograms for underprivileged women. Whoo hooo!

  2. I saw The Bodies Exhibition at South Street Seaport with my bud, Belle, and enjoyed it very much. What's more, Belle liked it very much, too. :-D I was disappointed at the lack of cool souvenirs (hey, my boss brought back a femur pen from the Mutter Museum!), although there were some very nice T-shirts. The good thing about the dearth of neato stuff is that I didn't spend moolah getting stuff I don't need. :-)

  3. Belle and I did indeed have lunch at Heartland Brewery and we both ordered the berry champagne beer thingy that is supposed to appeal to those who don't normally like the taste of beer. The verdict: still tastes like beer to this chicky.

  4. My niece turned 1, my nevvy starts first grade in the autumn but is already at a 2nd grade reading level. Awww, takes after his auntie. Heh. Ahem. :-D

  5. Did get a monetary reward for my agency award, after all. It's a lot less than last year's, but since I didn't expect anything, it's a good thing.

  6. Mum found a bunch of inexpensive kids' chopsticks for us to use as hair sticks. :-D They're so cute.

  7. One of my day editors came back unexpectedly.

  8. We hired another senior editor.

  9. We have an excellent freelance editor for a month.

  10. I meet with my executive recruiter on Thursday. :-D

  11. I got my new glasses... but wasn't able to pick them up for over 3 weeks, lol.

  12. The book I ordered that was lost (see item 6 below) was replaced by the seller. :-)

  13. My work MAC is being replaced by a PC (per my request).

  14. My street lamp post has not only been replaced, but the graffitied base has also been replaced.
The Losses
  1. The day before I went out with Belle to see The Bodies Exhibition, I chopped off a total of 8 inches of my hair in 3 goes within a 10 minute period. I couldn't stand it anymore and the weather had been particularly muggy. Not to fear, though, I still have plenty of hair left to donate, and it is healthier hair now. :-)

  2. 1 of our day staff left as scheduled.

  3. 1 of our day staff was reassigned, which had not been anticipated.

  4. Multiple people from other departments have left.

  5. We've merged with another agency.

  6. A book I had ordered months ago finally shipped... only to never arrive in my paws.

  7. I continue to pay my bills late.

  8. My laundry is back up to my chest level.

  9. My doctor put me on a doubled dosing regimen of my cholesterol medication.

  10. I missed the celebratory dinner with my team on one of my accounts.

  11. I missed going to see The DaVinci Code, Over the Hedge, Cars and X-Men III with Socially Inept.

  12. I barely see Mum these days (or nights).

  13. By switching computers, I lose the use of a computer for 1 day and I will no longer be able to access iTunes.

  14. Although my street lamp post and base have been replaced, the light doesn't work.

  15. I have a PC at work now but can't get my e-mail nor printer.

Chin up T. It has got to get better xxx

PS The Da Vinci Code is rubbish, so I would switch that one from your losses, to gains :)

The very name "berry champagne beer" should have sounded a loud warning bell. Any foodstuff that has to advertise that it tastes like something else is de facto suspect.

I'm sorry that you're still mired at work. Just remember, there's more to life than work . . . or berry champagne beer.

Oh, wow, T. What a list! What a lot going on!

I'm impressed that you found the time and energy to blog about it all. But thanks for doing so.

    Hang in there!

Wow, did post previously but it didn't take, Darn.

Anyway, nice to hear from you again. The fortunes in the cookies are bogus, but the lotto numbers are sure-fire winners.

Now Mummy has gone missing. Have you seen her? Did some awful person say some awful thing? Mummy can you at least say goodbye here at T's or at seb's so we don't worry? How is that little Joey of yours with the Vampire Fangs? PK has been putting your face on a milk carton and hanging up lost mummy posters all over blogdom.

Oh dear. Sorry to worry Fairscape. I am re-surfacing after a busy time. Tea, you have to get out of there - working those hours is simply not sustainable. If nothing else, you are likely to suffocate in the laundry pile as it reaches the ceiling...
