Good Locks
Tired of dealing with your luxurious tresses? Thinking about emulating the military buzz cut? Pondering the joys of no more bad hair days?

Then you're in luck!

Rather than having your shorn locks tossed to the floor like so much detritus, why not donate them for a worth cause? Many cancer patients lose their hair while undergoing various oncologic therapies and your hair donations can help them during a difficult time in their lives.

Locks of Love and Wigs for Children are 2 nonprofit organizations that will accept donated hair to make wigs for children who have cancer. Please note that all donated hair must be at least 10 inches (25.4 cm).

I'm waiting for my hair to grow back to waist-length. At present, it's about two thirds there, then I'll have it shorn. Still haven't decided whether to go for the very short look again (practically bare-scalped) or to aim a bob or page boy. Every 2 to 3 years I'm faced with this dilemma. You'd think I would have a clue by now.

Waist length likely means this summer, so I'll have to go very short, or just long enough that I can pull my hair out of the way. There's not much worse during the sweltering heat and humidity than hair that constantly sticks and pokes you. Ugh.

    SI! You're back! :-D

Page boy? Really, I thought the buzz cut again. But all the silver would be more easily spotted, huh?

Vanity or vanity? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Ha. You should talk. You're the insomniac, not I! Get. to. bed. now.

Well, you've seen the various lengths my hair has been, so it's not like I won't ever have use for the accessories again. And Mum's hair is pretty long now, too, so she can always use them... although she's been making noise about cutting it again, so maybe we'll both have ours done over the summer.

Anyway, you saw how long mine is. By the time the heatwave hits, I'll be sick of it, and there will be more to donate.

    Lol, Fuff.

Are you commenting on the good deeds charities or the inane conversation that followed regarding my currently non-bald pate? ;-D

I absolutely adore your blog! :-D

Hehe. I am quite taken aback by your post. I probably would cut my hair but I wouldn't really want to, selfish really.

I've given my hair to the Locks of Love charity and felt v good about being a part of it. It's the easiest charity work I've ever done (and much less painful than a walkathon)!

*scratching my head, confuzzled* Why taken aback?

Nonsense, Fuff. Not selfish at all. It'd be selfish if you did decide to cut it off, then just let it rot off in some landfill full of messy and smelly... things. ;-)

I go through hair cycles of 2-3 years. Depends on how long it is before I'm absolutely sick of it, and that's generally around midback to waist length. Once I do get tired of fussing with it (and by fussing, I mean having it fly in my face, shed all over, in the way), I have it cut either close to my scalp or somewhere between chin to shoulder length. It's all contingent on what mood I'm in when I make my decision, which is usually spur of the moment. :-) I can't begin to tell you the number of times I've suddenly had my hair cropped short, then returned to work and shocking my coworkers. Heh. ;-)

Hi, A! I like your philosophy! :-) I think you are rightly proud, for you did a wonderful thing. And I quite agree that donating one's hair is a lot less painful than a walkathon or some such. ;-)
