| Insomnia Means Never Having to Say, "I Slept" |
Have you heard about the results of the 2005 National Sleep Foundation Poll (you can download a pdf of the summary results here)?
Are you surprised? (This topic is especially relevant for Socially Inept, Brenda and Seb.)
We live in a technologic word in which mobile phones, the Internet, FAX machines, answering machines, etc, etc, mean that clients and bosses have no compunction about calling people at any hour of any day to work. After all, the competition for business, of any sort, is fierce.
Then there are professions that provide essential services which don't follow strict working hours no matter what laws or rules are. For example, I think it's pretty clear that most healthcare professionals, police, firemen, etc, do not work regular hours. And whether they're paid for it or not, most do work overtime. After all, emergencies do not care what time or day of the week it is, nor do they care if it's a holiday or not, whether there's a staff shortage or not.
Add in careers where long hours are almost considered a badge of honor (law, politics, entertainment, etc), and juggling parenthood with work, and I can't imagine that anyone would think this is not a problem.
You can also read the 2006 results, which focused on children and adolescents.
And here's more on chronic insomnia in US adults: Sleepless in Seattle and rest of U.S. too. |

I am one of the non sleepers, but I don't hold a candle to Seb. I think that Seb is the king of the sleepless - he Blogs 24/7/365.

Eek, PK; I hope you take naps, then. Gotta rest that noggin some time, sir!
As for Seb being the King, yes, I believe he is. :-)

Yeah, I feel like I miss out, if I go to sleep. And there are times when I feel like there are not enough hours in the day to get everything I need to get done.

I constantly feel the same way, Angel, Jr, but to be honest, even were our days 50 hours long, the weeks in 10-day groupings, etc, I think we'd still never have enough time. :-/
Lol, Charlie; you, maybe? ;-)
